From 18 to 24 November 2024, the ninth edition of the 'Week of Italian Cuisine in the World' will take place in Kosovo, centred on the theme: 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition', organised by the Italian Embassy in Pristina with the collaboration of the Ice Agency in Tirana.
The initiative aims to enhance Italian cuisine, highlighting its traditional roots and the fundamental role of the Mediterranean Diet in promoting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
Guests of the week will be professors and students from the 'Domenico Modugno' Professional Institute of Polignano a Mare, an institute of excellence in the food and wine sector.
Two invitation-only gala dinners are planned, on 18 November at the Hotel Swiss Diamond in Pristina and on 20 November at the Hotel Dukagjini in Peja. The common thread running through both dinners will be the exaltation of the common origins of traditional Italian and Arbëreshë cuisine. In fact, the menus proposed and realised by the Domenico Modugno Institute propose traditional Italian dishes that feature contaminations of the typical cuisine of the well-rooted, historical and dense Arbëreshë community in Italy, present in particular in the regions of Southern Italy. The gala dinner that will be hosted in Peja will be accompanied by an extensive tasting of Italian wines organised by Agenzia Ice and the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS)-Club Albania.
Two show cooking events open to the public will also be organised at the two largest shopping malls in Pristina (Albi Mall on 19 November and Pristhina Mall on 23 November) during which 'Domenico Modugno' teachers and students will present traditional Italian first courses. On 22 November, a third show cooking will be held at the headquarters of the 'Frigo Deluxe' company specialising in catering equipment and aimed at a professional audience.
There will also be space for an educational moment dedicated to the theme of the event, through a conference at the UBT University of Pristina entitled 'Nutraceutics and Gastroceutics allied for a new format of food and beverage administration: ristoceutics' held by Professor Innocente Galluzzi of the 'Domenico Modugno' University. This will be followed by a gastronomic demonstration where the Cialedda Pugliese 2.0 will be made. For the third consecutive year, throughout the 'Week' selected restaurants in Pristina will offer special menus of Italian cuisine at the reduced price of 10 euro.
