High-level meeting in Seoul, in view of the possible signing of an agreement of friendship and cooperation between the cities of Gyeongju and Agrigento.
This is an important territorial diplomacy initiative that the Italian Embassy in South Korea facilitated, helping to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance the rich cultural heritage of both countries, as part of the broader strategy of growth diplomacy coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Silla, encompasses historic UNESCO heritage areas since 2000, and is preparing to host the APEC 2025 summit.
Agrigento was designated the Italian Capital of Culture for 2025.
The Embassy was represented by Political Counsellor and Head of Territorial Diplomacy Giorgio Cavalieri, who met with Jeoung Mi Young, Head of the Gyeongju International Cooperation Office. Also present at the meeting were Fabrizio La Gaipa, by proxy of the Mayor of Agrigento, Ferdinando Gueli, Director of the Foreign Trade Institute in the Republic of Korea, and Jessica Yoo Seung Hee, an Embassy official expert in conventions between territorial authorities.
