Matteo Garrone's Tale of Tales got
a warm reception as it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival
Thursday night.
The film, based on a collection of 17th-century baroque
Neapolitan fairy tales, received more than seven minutes of
applause.
The English-language movie starring Salma Hayek, John
C.Reilly, Toby Jones and Vincent Cassel, is one of three Italian
offerings vying for the Palme d'Or.
The others are Paolo Sorrentino's Truth and Nanni Moretti's
'Mia Madre' (My Mother).
There is already talk of a sequel to or a TV series based
on Tales of Tales, which Garrone said draws inspiration from TV
fantasy blockbuster Game of Thrones, Tarantino favourite Mario
Bava and Goya's Pasticho paintings.
