(ANSA) - Rome, September 19 - Italy ended the Rio Paralympics in ninth place in the medal table with 39 medals, including 10 golds, after Martina Caironi triumphed in the 100 metres T42 event for amputees.
Caironi, Italy's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony, won the same event at the London games in 2012.
Italy's Monica Contraffatto was also on the podium after finishing third in the same race.
Contraffatto is an army official who lost one of her legs in 2012 while defending an Italian base in Afghanistan.
