9,735,000 - watched reigning European champs Italy fail to
qualify for their second straight World Cup with a 1-0 defeat to
North Macedonia in Palermo Thursday night, Rai state broadcaster
said Friday.
The humiliating defeat, four years on from a similar loss to
Sweden, has put the future of coach Roberto Mancini in doubt
with Fabio Cannavaro or Carlo Ancelotti tipped to take over,
although skipper Giorgio Chiellini and the Italian soccer
federation have backed Mancini.
