Tariffs are economic weapons to
influence alliances, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said
Saturday.
"This is also a period of decidedly aggressive trade and
financial wars through the use of tariffs and cryptocurrencies,"
the rightwing League party heavyweight said at the swearing-in
of the Guardia di Finanza Tax Police Officer Cadets in Bergamo.
"Tools used as real 'economic weapons' capable of redefining
global financial and trade balances and dynamics, but which are
also profoundly influencing world politics.
"Imposing duties on certain goods is no longer just a measure to
defend the national economy and regulate trade relations between
countries, but a real lever that conditions international
policies.
"If applied strategically, they can alter global trade,
influence political alliances and redraw geopolitical
structures"
