Federica Brignone has suffered a "bad"
compound fracture of her left leg in a fall Thursday and should
be operated on immediately, Dr. Andrea Panzeri, president of the
Italian Skiing Federation (FISI) Medical Commission, who will
operate on the Italian champion, said.
Brignone, 34, is Italy's most successful woman skier and has
just won her second overall World Cup crown as well as winning
the downhill, SuperG and slalom globes.
"She is not well, she has a fairly serious fracture of the
lateral tibial plateau: we have evaluated the tests and seen the
condition of the skin. We have decided to go into surgery
immediately. It is a serious fracture, the bone is significantly
broken: we hope everything goes well, recovery will take
months", said Panzeri.
