World broadcasters in St Peter's for
the papal conclave are using Elon Musk's Starlink internet
service to get around the comms blackout around the Sistine
Chapel.
With a camera, microphone and Starlink kit, several TV crews are
relying on Musk's company's internet connection to report on the
conclave from St. Peter's Square, also to avoid problems related
to the blocking of telephone coverage ordered to guarantee the
isolation of the cardinals in the Sistine Chapel.
"In St. Peter's, journalists connect to Starlink for live
broadcasts," wrote Musk's Italy man Andrea Stroppa on X,
publishing some photos of the stations for the broadcasters set
up inside the square, each equipped with a tripod with an
antenna, a white square tablet, for the high-speed satellite
internet connection.
