Prosecutors on Monday requested
authorization to arrest House MP Pasquale Maietta of the small
rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party in a bid-rigging case in
the Lazio town of Latina.
Parliament must lift the MP's immunity in order for law
enforcement to proceed.
Police earlier arrested 15 suspects in the case, including
ex-Latina mayor Giovanni Di Giorgi, former city cabinet member
Giuseppe Di Rubbo of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (FI)
party, other officials and businessmen. Charges range from
criminal association to bid-rigging to abuse of office to
forgery.
