A 46-year-old Pesaro man who has been
paralysed for 18 years and can only communicate with an ocular
pointer on Monday started deep sedation to end his life after
getting the green light for assisted suicide from the Marche
regional ethical committee.
Fabio Ridolfi, 46, from Fermignano in the province of
Pesaro-Urbino, has been seeking to end his suffering for years.
On Sunday night his fellow citizens staged a vigil for him in
the central square.
Fermignano Mayor Emanuele Feduzi said "we want to salute him and
let him understand that all of Fermignano is with him and his
family".
His brother Andrea said: "Fabio will get what he wanted".
