A convicted member of the Camorra
mafia has seen his 11-year spell as a fugitive of Italian
justice come to an end after he gave himself away by celebrating
Napoli's recent Serie A title triumph.
Vincenzo La Porta is set to serve a jail term of 14 years, four
months after Carabinieri police tracked him down on the Greek
island of Corfù thanks to a photo they came across during web
patrolling operations.
In the photo that ended up on social media, the 60-year-old,
considered a white-collar member of the Camorra's Contini clan,
can be seen celebrating the championship victory outside a Corfù
restaurant with a Napoli scarf in his hands and a baseball cap
on his head.
As result they started tailing him and captured him hours ago as
he was climbing onto a scooter.
He was on a list of Italy's most dangerous fugitives and
specialized in tax evasion and fraud.
