In 2025 an estimated 258,000 job
positions will remain unfilled in a range of retail sectors,
retailers' confederation Confcommercio said on Monday.
The process, called mismatch, is expected to rise by 4% compared
to last year, according to the confederation, which spoke about
an "emergency" that "risks to hamper economic growth" in the
retail sector as well as "the GDP of the entire Italian economic
system".
The most difficult professional figures to find include sales
assistants in fashion stores as well as in food shops, waiters,
pizza chefs, bartenders and cleaners, among others,
Confesercenti said.
In a note, the confederation mentioned as causes the negative
demographic trend among the young working population (-4.8
million between 1982 and 2024 in the 15-39 age group), as well
as a decrease in adequately prepared professionals, a change in
the preferences of potential workers and the fact that many are
unwilling to move far from home.
