The Italian ambassador to Madrid, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, attended the 'XVII Congreso Nacional de la Empresa Familiar', organised in Santander from 20 to 22 October by the Instituto de la Empresa Familiar, a body founded in 1992 and a point of reference in Spain for more than 100 Spanish companies at national level and 1,800 at regional level, which together account for 70% of employment and 10% of Spanish GDP. Italy was the first country to be invited to an edition of the National Congress of Family Businesses, informs a note from the embassy.
Speakers included senior representatives of Spanish institutions and leading figures from the national political and business world, as well as Italian family businesses. The conference was concluded with speeches by King Felipe VI, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz Delgado, and the President of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, followed by a dissertation by the President of the Jacques Delors Institute, Enrico Letta, on the 'Future of Europe'.
