With over 60 events scheduled throughout the country, the ninth edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World (Scim) will kick off in Argentina on 16 November. The initiative was presented on Wednesday at a press point by Ambassador Fabrizio Lucentini, accompanied by the Director of Festivals of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Débora Rajtman, the Consul General of Italy in Buenos Aires, Carmelo Barbera, the Deputy Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Buenos Aires, Giuliana Gentile, and the Director of the Italian Agency for Foreign Trade in Buenos Aires, Gianni Loreti.
Ambassador Lucentini highlighted the importance of Scim as a vector both for the development of the agri-food sector - which accounts for 19% of Italian GDP and 62 billion euros in exports - and for the development and promotion of our cultural identity. "Cuisine is a pillar of our identity and contributes to the diffusion of our culture and lifestyle," Lucentini said, emphasising that "the deep ties that unite us and the fact that Italian gastronomy is part of Argentina's make presenting the initiative here in Argentina a very natural occurrence.
During the presentation, some of the points related to the theme chosen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for the 2024 edition of the Scim - 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition' - were explored in depth, highlighting the value of Italian gastronomic culture as 'synonymous with a healthy, high quality and traditionally linked diet'.
Among the central events of the programme is the gastronomic fair to be held on 16 November at the Usina dell'Arte cultural centre of the Buenos Aires City Government, an iconic building recovered from the former power station of the Italo-Argentine Electricity Company.
