Within the framework of the 'Week of Italian Cuisine in the World' (Scim), promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Maeci), and celebrating its 9th edition this year, from 18 to 24 November, Italian culinary culture will be the protagonist of a rich programme of activities in Spain.
The Scim 2024 will represent a journey through our country's culinary roots and traditions, designed to celebrate the authentic flavours that tell of Italian values and knowledge.
This year's edition is dedicated to the theme 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition', with the aim of promoting Italian food culture and the Mediterranean Diet as engines of growth and development. The programme in Spain includes over 30 activities promoted by the Consulate General in Barcelona, the Vice Consulate in Arona, the Italian Cultural Institutes in Madrid and Barcelona, the bi-national Chambers of Commerce in Madrid and Barcelona, and the Com.It.Es in Madrid.
The Italian Embassy in Madrid is organising and collaborating in a series of initiatives that will kick off on 14 November with an event dedicated to 'Space Cuisine', as part of the 'Semana de la Ciencia', the Science Week, held annually in the Spanish capital. Proposing the combination of science and gastronomy, the initiative will explore how cuisine can evolve even in extreme environments such as space, raising Italian creativity to unimaginable heights.
On 18 November, it will be the turn of 'The Italian Show', an important showcase for Italian producers and restaurateurs celebrating the authentic flavours of Italy in a context that aims to raise awareness of Italy's gastronomic culture.
On 20 November, at the IES Hotel Escuela, two Masterclasses will take place, which, thanks also to the collaboration of ICE Madrid, will put the talents of chef Antonio Scalera and master pastry chef Fabrizio Galla at the disposal of the Institute's students.
Finally, from 16 November to 1 December, visitors to the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, in Madrid, will be able to access an exhibition dedicated to 'The Art of Eating. La comida en el arte', which offers a selection of works by Italian, Spanish and international painters who have represented typical foods of the Mediterranean diet in their paintings.
