On the occasion of National Space Day 2024, the Italian Embassy in Prague yesterday organised a conference and exhibition dedicated to the evolution of design for space environments. A journey into cutting-edge technical choices, which sees Italian research and industry at the forefront in the development of innovative and ergonomically successful solutions for living off the ground.
The exhibition 'Italian Space Design' was inaugurated in the Scuderie dell'Ambasciata. The guests were then welcomed in the representative salons by the greetings of Ambassador Mauro Marsili and by video link from the Minister of Transport, Martin Kupka, responsible for the space dossier in the Czech Republic. The conference continued with speeches by the embassy's space attaché, Maria Cristina Falvella, on 'The Colonisation of Outer Space' and by Milan Polytechnic University lecturers Annalisa Dominoni and Benedetto Quaquaro on 'The Cities of the Universe'.
The evening ended with a discussion between all participants aimed at initiating a fruitful dialogue between institutions, academia, companies and young people interested in contributing to the evolution of the space sector. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 20 December.
The exhibition is the result of an itinerant multimedia project by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Maeci), based on a study conducted by the Milan Polytechnic. Space design combines creativity and innovation, anticipating solutions for living in confined environments, reduced gravity and new needs that will also transform the way we live on earth.
Through tables, videos and objects of space design, together with an installation dedicated only to the Prague headquarters and inspired by the book 'The Cities of the Universe' written by the exhibition's curators, the exhibition illustrates the success story of Italian design and architectural research applied to space. The initiative was attended by representatives from the institutional, diplomatic, academic and industrial worlds, the Italian-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as a delegation from Italy led by Minister Plenipotentiary Giuseppe Pastorelli, deputy director general of the Directorate General for the Country System of the Maeci.
