The Irish Presidential Distinguished Service Awards ceremony for 2024 was held at the Irish President's Residence (the Áras an Uachtaráin). The IPDSA recognises service to Ireland or Irish communities abroad by those resident outside the country.
Among the personalities honoured in 2024 with this prestigious award is Enrico Terrinoni, Professor of English Literature at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and Chair of English Literature at the University for Foreigners in Perugia. During the ceremony, the Irish President Michael D. Higgins awarded Prof. Terrinoni the IPSDA for the Arts, Culture and Sport category, for the energy, dedication and ingenuity with which he has made a unique and valuable contribution to Ireland and to the knowledge and dissemination of Irish culture and literature in Italy and around the world. The ceremony was also attended by the Italian Ambassador in Dublin, Nicola Faganello.
In addition to prof. Terrinoni, the Irish Presidential Distinguished Service Award was given in 2024 to the following personalities: Patrick Leahy, former United States Senator: Rosalind Scanlon, Artistic Director of the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith, London: Aduke Gomez, Irish-Nigerian scholar; Orla Kiely, fashion designer: Sister Teresa McKeon, missionary and educator in Sierra Leone (in absentia); Mary O'Neill, lawyer in Los Angeles; Pam O'Mahony, advocate for the Irish community in Australia; Stella O'Leary, observer at the International Fund for Ireland; Séamus Coleman, captain of the Ireland national football team.
