The Italian Embassy in Ankara commemorated the more than 53,000 victims of the earthquake that struck south-eastern Anatolia on 6 February 2023. "On the second anniversary of the terrible earthquake that struck south-east Turkey, Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi and the entire Embassy join the Turkish people and authorities in the commemoration and remembrance of the victims, expressing closeness to the families of those affected," a statement read.
"Since the beginning of the emergency, Italy has mobilised alongside Turkey in assisting the relief effort and has subsequently contributed with reconstruction interventions, particularly in the school sector and socio-economic assistance in the affected territories of Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep and Salinurfa, in cooperation with the United Nations Agencies.
United in remembrance and support for reconstruction,' said the Italian diplomatic mission in the Turkish capital.
