On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, established by the United Nations, the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, in collaboration with the Italian Women's Group Singapore (Iwg), organised an event dedicated to women's leadership in the fields of science and technology.
The event, opened by Italian Ambassador Dante Brandi and moderated by Science Attaché Nicola Bianchi, featured three prominent female researchers: Giulia Adriani, Dr Serenella Tolomeo and Sandra Zhong, internationally recognised for their contributions in immunology, cancer therapies, neuroscience and behavioural disorders.
The event offered an important opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities for women in science, as well as the value of scientific collaboration between Italy and Singapore, a key dimension of bilateral relations.
"This event testifies not only to the excellence of women in science, but also to the importance of international cooperation as an engine of progress," said Ambassador Dante Brandi. "Italy and Singapore share a long tradition of collaboration in research and innovation, further strengthened in 2023 with the signing of the first Executive Programme in Science and Technology. This agreement promotes joint projects in strategic sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Quantum Technologies, Photonics, Hydrogen, Foodtech and Cancer Therapies. This initiative, which takes place in the year of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries, is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to enhancing female talent in research and innovation'.
