The Italian Ambassador to Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, today held a working meeting with the new Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Bulgaria, Daniel Mitov, which was also attended by the Deputy Head of Mission, Edoardo Di Paolo, and the Liaison Officer, Lt. Col. Giuseppe Mercatali.
In the course of the talks," the Embassy reported in a note, "the Ambassador and the Minister expressed their mutual satisfaction with the excellent Italian-Bulgarian cooperation in the European sphere and with the more strictly bilateral cooperation, which sees the two countries collaborating intensively and fruitfully in the fight against terrorism, organised crime and human trafficking. They also discussed the challenges of securing the EU's external borders with particular reference to the fight against illegal immigration.
Ambassador Zarra congratulated Bulgaria on its full accession to the Schengen area and thanked the Bulgarian side for the excellent and active interaction between the two countries, reiterating Italy's commitment to continue cooperation in the field of internal affairs and its possible development at all levels.
