The Italian Ambassador to Zagreb, Paolo Trichilo, visited the towns of Vukovar and Ilok, located in the easternmost region of Croatia.
In the first locality - the Embassy reported in a note - Trichilo inaugurated an exhibition on Italian design and brand with materials from the Museum of the Italian Brand in Naples and a selection of furniture combining the elegance of 'Made in Italy' with sustainable production. In the meetings with local authorities, the common will to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest was affirmed, starting with economic development, tourism, and culture. In particular, the President of the Vukovar and Srijem Region highlighted the increase of almost 40% of Italian tourists in the last year.
In Ilok, a town with strong historical ties to Italy, the ambassador visited the Odescalchi Palace, home to the local civic museum, built by the noble family in the estate given to them by Emperor Leopold I of Habsburg as a reward for their role in the Battle of Vienna (1683) against the Ottomans. Another important historical link with Italy is the fact that Ilok was the place of death of St John of Capestrano, for whom his main church is named.
The mission ended with a visit to the Adriatica Dunav company, part of the Italian Adriatica K group, an international leader in the production and marketing of fertilisers, which in Vukovar has its only production plant abroad (in addition to those located in Italy). The ambassador was welcomed by Dr. Massimo Ferro, a former member of parliament and senator, among others, and currently a member of the Ice board of directors, who illustrated the growth strategies of the group, which has 8 subsidiaries in all continents.
