In the framework of the 9th Day of Italian Design in the World, the conference "Inequalities: Italian Design for a Better Life" was held last Friday at the Faculty of Computer Engineering in Skopje, organised by the Italian Embassy in Skopje in cooperation with the Ita - Italian Trade Agency - Skopje and with the support of the Faculty of Computer Engineering - Finki, the Bau Accelerator, Capris (Center for Advanced and Postdoctoral Research at the University 'SS. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje), the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia and Europe House Skopje.
The event was opened by the introductory speech of the Italian Ambassador Paolo Palminteri, who emphasised the relevance of Italy in the design sector as a pioneer country that successfully integrates traditional aesthetics with the needs of sustainability and social inclusion, through technological innovation.
'The hope is that the sharing of Italian examples of sustainable urban development, such as that of the city of Turin, will initiate new collaborations with North Macedonia,' - said the Ambassador in front of the large audience of students, entrepreneurs, architects and designers.
The Minister for Digital Transformation of North Macedonia Stefan Andonovski, the Mayor of the City of Skopje Danela Arsovska, the Coordinator of the Eib Ris Hub for North Macedonia Aleksandar Stambolievski, and the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Engineering Boro Jakimovski also addressed words of greeting to those present, describing the event as an excellent opportunity for exchange with Italy on fundamental issues such as overcoming inequality, urban innovation, technology and sustainability.
Illustrating the excellence of Italian design through the most representative projects in the fields of urban transformation, technological innovation and sustainable development were the four guests of honour, including the Head of Territorial Development of Torino Urban Lab, Chiara Lucchini, the Director of Piedmont's Digital Innovation Hub, Francesco Mosca, the manager of SuperUrbanity, Odolfo Pinto, and the manager of Systematica, Giovanni Bottini. Adding value to the conference was the speech by lecturer Ognen Marina, who highlighted the importance of international collaboration for the exchange of experiences, skills and ideas for the transformation of urban areas into eco-sustainable centres suited to the needs of citizens.
