The Ambassador of Italy to Switzerland, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, accompanied by the Consul General, Mario Baldi, today paid an official visit to the Zurich Canton Government, where he held talks with the delegation led by the President of the Canton Government, Natalie Rickli. The visit laid the foundations for increasing cooperation with Italy in the cultural, scientific, and economic-commercial spheres, as well as in the school sector, thanks to the synergies between the Zurich State School Pole and the cantonal schools, says a Consulate statement.
Of particular importance in this context is the cooperation in the academic and scientific research sector between the Italian institutions and the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, coordinated by the Office of the Scientific Attaché of the Consulate General.
Ambassador Cornado - who recalled that the Consulate General in Zurich is the fourth largest in the world and the second largest in Europe in terms of the size of the Italian community - thanked President Rickli for the fruitful cooperation that the Zurich cantonal authorities ensure in various sectors, in particular in the educational, cultural and security spheres.
As far as the cultural sphere is concerned, the extensive programme of events promoting the Italian language and culture involving the Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute was reviewed, as well as the opportunities for collaboration and synergy with Swiss counterparts.
More generally," the communiqué emphasised, "the talks enabled a cordial and constructive exchange of views on the important role played by the Italian community in contributing to the economic, cultural and social development of the most dynamic Canton of the Swiss Confederation, the country's true economic and financial engine. Ambassador Cornado's visit thus represented an important moment in the context of the solid relations of friendship that bind the two countries at every level and created the conditions for ever closer cooperation on the numerous topics of mutual interest.
