Italy is advancing in its preparations for its participation as Guest of Honour of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) in 2026.
This afternoon, at the Museum of Arts of the University of Guadalajara, the Italian ambassador to Mexico, Alessandro Modiano, chaired a working session with José Trinidad Padilla López and Marisol Schulz Manaut, president and general director of the FIL Guadalajara, meeting with the local media to share the progress of his country's participation in the 40th edition of the Fair.
In interviews granted to the Mexican press, Modiano said that Italy's project as Guest of Honour at the FIL Guadalajara is an ambitious bet, designed to showcase the diversity of contemporary Italian culture through literature, cinema, music, theatre, gastronomy and other sectors.
The Ambassador emphasised Italy's commitment to strengthening cultural ties with Mexico and bringing new audiences closer to its artistic and editorial wealth, underlining the international prestige of FIL Guadalajara, which he described as the main point of reference for literature in Spanish.
"The whole literary world knows what it means to be at FIL," Modiano said.
Italy's designation as Guest of Honour was announced on 27 March in Rome, at a press conference chaired by Italian authorities and FIL Guadalajara representatives.
On that occasion, José Trinidad Padilla López acknowledged the fundamental contribution of the Italian tradition to the history of literature and universal thought, adding that Italy's presence will offer participants the opportunity to enrich cultural exchange, discover new generations of writers and strengthen publishing ties between the two countries.
Similarly, Marisol Schulz Manaut, Director General of FIL Guadalajara, considered that this collaboration, coinciding with the recent celebration of 150 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Italy and the 40th anniversary of the Fair in 2026, is a particularly significant occasion.
