The Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin inaugurated the Pakistan Footwear, Material and Material Show (PFMMS) in Lahore together with the Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment of the Punjab Province, Shafay Hussain. The 2025 edition of Pakistan's leading footwear trade fair attracted a large number of national and international exhibitors. The PFMA, Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association, organiser of the show, estimates an influx of over 20,000 visitors.
The three-day exhibition saw the presence of the Association of Italian Manufacturers of Footwear, Leather Goods and Tannery Technology (ASSOMAC), with an institutional stand, and several national companies through local distributors. According to Agostino Apolito, Director General of ASSOMAC, it is important to strengthen the Italian promotional presence in the emerging Asian markets. During the event, a special cooperation agreement will be signed with the local counterpart PFMA. Leather and footwear processing represents the second largest generator of precious currency for the economy of the populous South Asian country. Pakistan has considerable production capacity in the footwear sector and intends to acquire Western technology and know-how to increase the value of local production. Italian technologies are particularly appreciated by the local business community and the major local industrial groups have iconic brands of Italian-made mechanics.
