The 9th edition of the Italian Design Day in the World (Idd), promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has kicked off in Chile. This year it is dedicated to the theme 'Inequalities. Design for a better life'. The exhibition, divided into three days of events, celebrates the excellence of Italian design and Made in Italy, which is celebrated every year around the world on 15 April. The guest of honour of the initiative is Raffaella Mangiarotti, architect and designer, Design Ambassador 2025 sent by Adi - Association for Industrial Design in Chile, one of the leading figures in contemporary Italian design.
The inaugural event took place at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Santiago, Valeria Biagiotti, who welcomed illustrious personalities and representatives of the world of design for a tour through the historic spaces of the residence, set up for the occasion with a selection of iconic objects of Italian design in the fields of furniture, automotive and fashion. The exhibition, realised in collaboration with Interdesign, a prestigious showcase for the marketing of Italian design articles in Chile, Ice Agency and the Italian Cultural Institute, also includes a section of the photographic exhibition 'Career Photography. A tribute of Italian photography to the Compasso d'Oro masters', curated by Adi.
"Italian Design is an essential component of our culture and economy: style and everyday life come together in objects capable of making the living experience unique and recognisable," Ambassador Biagiotti said in her opening speech.
On 15 April, the Italian Cultural Institute in Santiago hosted the conference 'Raffaella Mangiarotti, Design Projects for Furniture, Objects and Lighting'. A journey through the creation of simple and complex works by Raffaella Mangiarotti's design studio, presented by renowned designer and academic Hernán Garfias. This will be followed by the inauguration of the 'Career Photography' exhibition, open until 15 May. The final day, Wednesday 16 April, will be held at the Interdesign headquarters and will be dedicated to a specialised audience.
