Former Emilia-Romagna governor Antonio
La Forgia, 78, who has been battling cancer for a year and a
half, has now entered deep sedation after filling in an informed
consent form, his wife said Tuesday.
"For the law his body is forced to still be here while his mind
has already arrived in a light place," said the woman,
Mariachiara Risoldi, on Facebook.
"We are a really hypocritical country," she said.
La Forgia was E-R chief from 1996 to 1999 and also served as a
leftwing and centre-left MP in two legislatures.
Earlier Tuesday a man who is paralysed from the head down said
he "couldn't wait" to go into deep sedation too.
"I'm not afraid, I can't wait to do it," said Fabio Ridolfi, 46,
Fermignano (Pesaro Urbino), who has been paralysed for 18
years.
Ridolfi has asked health authorities to put an end to his
suffering but it is not known when they will reply.
