The centre-right government coalition
party Forza Italia (FI) has no future in Europe with political
forces that are anti-European, FI Lower House whip Paolo Barelli
told ANSA on Monday
"FI is an integral and founding part of the European People's
Party (EPP), we are pro-European and Atlanticist and therefore
we absolutely do not share our future with those who do not want
Europe, with those who do not want the single currency, with
those who support theses and positions that are anti-European,
such as the evaluations expressed in Florence by the
representatives of the anti-European parties," said Barelli.
On the appeal made by Deputy Premier and right-wing League
Secretary Matteo Salvini at a rally of the right-wing Identity
and Democracy (ID) European caucus members in Florence on Sunday
for a united centre-right to boot out "squatters" in Europe, the
FI exponent said the EPP does not agree.
"In Italy there will be no problems (with an alliance with the
League, ed.) but that project in the EU is implausible," said
Barelli.
ID is an alliance of nationalist, right-wing populist and
euroskeptic European political parties founded in 2014.
Deputy Premier and FI secretary Antonio Tajani has ruled out
working with some of its members including France's Marine Le
Pen and the rightist anti-Islam Dutch election winner Geert
Wilders.
