Italy's Vittoria Bussi has made
cycling history by becoming the first woman to ride 50
kilometers in a hour.
The 36-year-old Roman did 50.267 km in an hour at the
Aguascalientes track in Mexico on Friday to smash the previous
record of 49.254 km set by Dutchwoman Ellen Van Dijk in May
2022.
It is the second time Bussi, who has a doctorate in mathematics
from Oxford University, has held the hour record, after breaking
it for the first time in 2018.
It means that Italy holds the both records for the hour as
Filippo Ganna has the men's one.
Francesco Moser was the first man to break the 50km mark in an
hour 39 years ago.
