"Many of our fellow citizens will
gather in squares across the country to honour the memory of the
victims and send a clear message: the truth must prevail and
those responsible must be held accountable," said Greek Prime
Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a cabinet meeting on the
upcoming day of demonstrations that will take place across
Greece this Friday, on the two-year anniversary of the Tebi
train accident, in which 57 people died.
Mitsotakis emphasised the government's responsibility to
ensure that everyone has the right to free expression, but also
warned that "some are attempting to turn this collective
mourning into an opportunity for further division; they want to
exploit the victims' pain for their own political purposes."
More than 200 demonstrations are planned across Greece on
Friday, demanding that the conservative government of Nea
Dimokratia not cover up the investigation into the causes of the
accident.
