"For the first time, Gorizia and
Nova Gorica form a single European capital between two states.
And it is a very important fact that will go down in history as
the European capital of culture, and it may represent what the
European spirit should be, which is often forgotten and, in some
cases, betrayed by those who should represent it best."
Massimiliano Fedriga, president of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Region, made this statement on the sidelines of the European
Committee of the Regions' plenary session in Brussels. "This
collaboration can only serve as a stimulus to strengthen the
accession process. I am particularly interested in all of the
Western Balkans, where Friuli-Venezia Giulia has always served
as a vital link and will continue to do so," Fedriga said.
