Claudio Ranieri said Friday that he will not be staying on as Sampdoria coach next season.
"I'd like to close the soap opera about my contract (renewal)," the 69-year-old said.
"Today I told the squad that I won't be staying on another year.
The necessary conditions to remain do not exist.
"I thank the lads.
"They were marvellous, above all during the lockdown, when they worked fabulously and followed the directives.
"They have been professionals "We gave some excellent performances and we got some matches wrong".
Ranieri took over the Genoa side when they were bottom of Serie A early in the 2019-20 season and steered them to safety.
They are current ninth in the standings ahead of the last game of this season against already relegated Parma.
Ranieri's announcement was in the air after he reportedly failed to reach an agreement with Samp Chairman Massimo Ferrero on the length of an eventual contract renewal.
