Nadia Battocletti finished second to
Kenya's 5,000m champ Beatrice Chebet in the women's 10,000 metre
race at Paris 2024 Friday night becoming the first European
woman to medal in the event.
The 24year-old from Cles in South Tyrol had already finished
fourth in the 5,000.
"It also makes one smile a bit, my focus was on the 5,000, in
recent weeks I have had to reduce the load due to physical
problems, so the 10,000 was not even on my mind," she told Rai
Sport after the race.
"It's only my fourth race at this distance. But I wanted to have
some more fun and I got there with a smile and lightness".
The Italian athlete, who recently won golf in the 5,000 at the
European championships in Rome, carried a tricolour flag on her
shoulders after the race, limping, laughing and crying.
Then she went to embrace Gabriella Dorio, gold in the 1500 at
the 1984 Los Angeles Games, at the foot of the stands.
