The 63rd edition of the Milan Furniture Fair was launched at the Embassy of Italy in Delhi, at an event organised by the Ice Agency and the Italian Cultural Institute, which brought together designers, journalists and industry operators in the presence of President Maria Porro, accompanied by the Fair's Exhibition Director Andrea Vaiani.
"Last year there were over 370,000 visitors from 150 countries. In the week of 8-13 April, the Salone will become a sort of UN of design and creativity. Italy remains the leader in Europe in the furniture and furnishings sector,' recalled Ambassador Antonio Bartoli.
"The Salone is much more than a fair, it is a showcase of talent and creativity," said Porro. "This year we will return to host Euroluce, a biennial event that will be inaugurated by Robert Wilson in dialogue with Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini. Being in Delhi is a unique opportunity to tell our Salone and also to let the Indian design community tell us about the incredible things that are happening here.
As Antonietta Baccanari, who heads the Ice Agency in Delhi, recalled, "the Salone is increasingly becoming a reference point for Italian manufacturing excellence in the world. The Italian design and furnishing sector generates about 27 billion of turnover a year, 9 billion of which from exports. The objective of the Delhi leg is to create synergies between Italy and India, a country with enormous potential and resources. Also by combining creativity, tradition and innovation".
