Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi
showed his class in an exciting contest to win the high-jump at
the European Athletics Championships before President Sergio
Mattarella on Tuesday while Nadia Battocletti added the women's
10,000 metres title to her trophy cabinet, having already
prevailed in the 5,000, as Italy's gold glut continued at Roma
2024.
The Italian team go into Wednesday's final day at the top of the
medals table by some distance with 10 golds, seven silvers and
three bronzes.
It is already the Azzurri's best-ever showing at a European
athletics championships.
