Deputy Foreign Minister Marina Sereni
stressed the need for dialogue to meet the challenges the world
faces as she addressed the Global Interfaith Summit at the Italy
Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The summit was promoted by the United Arab Emirates Minister of
Tolerance and Coexistence Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan,
"We accepted this invitation because, at the G20 (summit in
Rome), we invested in dialogue, not just between religions, but
also between institutional and political authorities," Sereni
said.
"We are faced with global challenges: the pandemic, the climate
crisis, hunger and wars.
"We can win these global challenges if there is dialogue, not
just between different religions, but also between different
cultures and at different levels.
"Cooperation and dialogue between states and religious
institutions are fundamental.
"During the pandemic, religious leaders raised their voices in
defence of the poor and the most vulnerable, for an equitable
distribution of vaccines. "Governments and religious authorities
can share responsibility for promoting solidarity, mutual
understanding and cooperation, eradicating discrimination and
intolerance. Inclusive, high quality education is the best
antidote".
Deputy Minister Sereni also had several bilateral meetings with
UAE officials in Dubai.
