Italy had a stockpile of over 1,200
billion euros of uncollected taxes at the end of 2023, Ernesto
Maria Ruffini, the director of the Agenzia delle Entrate inland
revenue agency, said on Thursday.
Ruffini told an event organized by financial daily Il Sole 24
Ore that the total stemmed from 163 cases of tax disputes, debit
notices, and enforceable assessment notices.
"It's an imposing mass" he said, adding that "a large part of
this amount is not recoverable".
