World number one and top seed Jannik
Sinner fell to world number nine and fifth seed Andrey Rublev of
Russia in the Montreal Masters 1000 on Saturday as his up and
down form continued after exiting Wimbledon through illness and
missing Paris with tonsillitis.
The 22-year-old South Tyrolean, who lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 after a
rain break at the end of the first set, said he was carrying a
slight hip problem but had a 100% chance of competing in the US
Open.
The other Italian in the draw, Matteo Arnaldi, beat Kei
Nishikori of Japan 6-4, 7-5 to reach the semifinals, where he
will play Rublev.
