Minecraft Education has launched with St. Peter's Basilica and Microsoft a new interactive learning experience within its platform which will allow students to explore the legendary building.
Capitalizing on the experience of the project St. Peter's Basilica: AI-Enhanced Experience, an AI-enabled initiative unveiled last November in collaboration with Microsoft ahead of Jubilee celebrations this year, Peter is Here invites students to explore the Basilica's history through key events while trying their hand at restoration work and discovering the intersection between the site's cultural heritage and modern innovation.
"This experience is aimed at accompanying students in the discovery of a fascinating spiritual, artistic and architectural reality preserved in St. Peter's Basilica, a place in which the faith of multiple generations has shaped a space of elevation and dialogue between the human and the divine", said Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, the Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica, Vicar for Vatican City and President of the Fabbrica di San Pietro, the centuries-old Vatican institution tasked with the maintenance and preservation of the Basilica.
The interactive experience allows students to explore the Basilica and its historic development by using AI-based tools to discover the stories behind the building's architecture and art.
Microsoft Copilot was used to search and inform the historic experiences within the game while Microsoft Designer was employed to conceptualize assets of the game, among others.
Catholic schools around the world and schools across Italy will be among the first to use the new learning tool.
