Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met on
Thursday morning with European Commission President Ursula von
der Leyen ahead of an EU Council summit to discuss themes on the
agenda including a relaunch of Europe's competitiveness and
plans for a surge in defence spending.
Speaking about measures to fund boosted expenses in the defence
sector, Meloni stressed the need to encourage the participation
of private capitals, for example through the model of InvestEU,
as proposed by Rome, as well as common European tools that will
not directly weigh on the debt of States.
