Young British and Italian people are
expanding the mosaic of relations between the two countries,
King Charles said in his historic address to the Italian
parliament Wednesday, citing pop hit machine Ed Sheeran and
Italian opera as examples of cultural exchanges.
"Our greatest resource is our citizens, our young people who are
expanding the mosaic that makes up our relations piece by piece.
There are 450,000 Italians who reside in the United Kingdom as
well as tens of thousands of British citizens in Italy and the
millions who visit it", said Charles III in his speech at
Montecitorio.
"It fills us with pride - he added - that London is the city
with the highest number of Italians living abroad. Our
commercial ties are flourishing: from green power to science,
from space to services. The United Kingdom is the fifth largest
investor in Italy".
"Our cultures - he continued - continue to have a strong impact
on each other". Charles cited the Byzantine mosaics that he will
visit in Ravenna as well as Dante's tomb and the Byron museum
Thursday.
"Where two hundred years ago we sent poets, today we delight
each other with music," he concluded, "whether it's the wonder
of Italian opera at Covent Garden or Ed Sheeran at the Stadio
Olimpico."
