The streaming views of scheming
cardinals drama Conclave by Edward Berger starring Ralph Fiennes
have surged by 283% after Pope Francis's death, the tallying
site Luminate said Wednesday.
Conclave totaled approximately 1.8 million minutes watched on
April 20, the day Francis died; by the end of April 21, the
number had risen to 6.9 million minutes.
And the numbers for The Two Popes, another recent filmic papal
portrayal, by Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles, also
boomed.
The 2019 drama that imagines a never-happened conversation
between Benedict XIV on the verge of retreat and the
then-archbishop of Buenos Aires Jorge Mario Bergoglio was
watched for 1.6 million minutes on Netflix on Monday, 417
percent more than on Easter Sunday.
Conclave traces the silky manoeuvres by cardinals amid the vote
for a new pope, ending with a neck-wrenching plot switch.
