Research into the nature, evolution and petrology of volcanic rocks in the Senegalese-Mauritanian basin region has been carried out by a researcher from the Department of Geology of the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar. The research by Abdoulaye Ndiaye, at the Department of Earth Science of the Federico II University in Naples, was made possible by Farnesina in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Dakar.
Professors Vincenzo Morra and Lorenzo Fedele, from the University of Naples, provided the Senegalese researcher with the necessary instrumentation to complete the research.
According to the Italian Embassy in Dakar, Dr. Ndiaye's experience 'strengthens relations in the field of higher education and research between Italian and Senegalese institutions and opens up new opportunities for partnerships and strategic collaborations in the field of earth sciences between the two countries'.
