The "strong relationship" between Italy and Senegal "in the sphere of job creation for young Senegalese" was the focus of a written message from the Italian Ambassador in Dakar, Caterina Bertolini, which was read out at the opening of the proceedings of the Steering Committee of 'Adijefe', a development cooperation project financed by the Italian Government with a 2 million euro donation and implemented by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The Ambassador also underlined the Italian Government's support for the Senegalese Government's political priorities and stressed that Senegal has been included among the priority countries of the Mattei Plan for Africa; a decision taken in the wake of concrete results such as the approval by the Italian Cooperation of cooperation projects worth around 100 million euros in favour of Senegal in 2024.
Senegal's Minister of Labour, Abass Fall, thanked the Italian Cooperation for its support, emphasising how much work still needs to be done to enable young Senegalese to enter the labour market and find decent employment opportunities.
The 'Adijefe' project aims to accompany the Senegalese state in the implementation of its labour policies and fight against economic precariousness, and provides institutional support to the Senegalese government
During the meeting, the results achieved to date were presented to Minister Fall and the various participants, and actions for the coming months were validated.
