The Festa del Cinema Italiano in Portugal kicked off on Wednesday at the Cinema São Jorge with a speech by artistic director Stefano Savio, Ambassador Claudio Miscia, and director Andrea Segre, host of the opening night of the festival, which runs from 9 to 17 April in Lisbon and will then travel to 20 Portuguese cities. The festival, organised by the Il Sorpasso Association with the support of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute, offers a wide-ranging programme that includes over 50 films and dozens of parallel events including concerts, debates, and in-depth studies.
The Italian Embassy also contributes to the festival's schedule with three ad hoc initiatives: the first is a meeting dedicated to the film industry in the context of the Made in Italy Day, with various film industry insiders from Italy and Portugal. On Sunday 13 April, there will be a debate on decolonisation as seen through the eyes of cinema and, in particular, dialogues between Italian and Portuguese directors (Cinema São Jorge, Room 2, 3.30 pm). On 17 April, to conclude the festival, the Embassy offers a concert by the Gran Duo composed of maestros Angela Meluso and Mauro Tortorelli, who reinterpret well-known soundtracks rearranged for piano and for a special '5-string gran violin'. The instrument, designed by Tortorelli, was made by the Liuteria Jonica in Montegiordano (CS). The complete festival programme is available at festadocinemaitaliano.com
