The commitment of the Italian Embassy in Tbilisi to strengthening cooperation between Italy and Georgia in the field of higher education continues: in April, the first of a cycle of conferences promoted and supported by the Embassy and jointly organised by the Minerva Education Centre, Kutaisi International University (KIU) and the International Education Centre (IEC) was held in Kutaisi.
The conference entitled 'Academic Collaboration between Italy and Georgia: Internationalisation Objectives and Strategies', a highly significant and unprecedented event, was attended by 13 Italian and 13 Georgian universities, represented by Rectors, Pro-Rectors and internationalisation delegates. The event programme included various speeches, presentations, discussions and round tables. The speakers - representatives of Italian universities - provided the guests (professors, experts, representatives of Italian and Georgian institutions and academia) with their views on the future of academia, the adoption of effective internationalisation strategies for higher education, and initiatives aimed at fostering increased international mobility.
The highlight of the event was the launch of the programmes in Medicine and Design, established in cooperation between the University of Naples Federico II and Kutaisi International University, with double recognition of the degree, and the signing of no less than four Memoranda of Cooperation (of the University for Foreigners of Perugia with IEC, with the Sokhumi State University and with the Minerva Education Hub, and also the Mou between the Minerva Education Hub and KIU).
"This event was an excellent opportunity to initiate a debate on internationalisation goals and strategies," said Ambassador D'Antuono, "and also to generate ideas aimed at broadening the dissemination of knowledge, strengthening collaboration between Italy and Georgia in the field of research and innovation, sharing good practices, and developing the mobility programmes of students and academics."
