Elon Musk's man in Italy Andrea
Stroppa told Premier Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy (FdI)
party "don't call us any more" Wednesday saying the FdI had
forged a deal with the Democratic Party (PD) and other leftwing
opposition parties to pass an amendment safeguarding national
security on any possible deal with Musk's Starlink satellite
fast Internet system.
Stroppa wrote on X: "PD-FdI agreement. Well, they want to make
Starlink and SpaceX (which, among other things, launched
missions for Italy, accelerating the timing to lend a hand) look
like the bad guys. To the friends of FdI: avoid calling us for
conferences or anything else".
The PD said Tuesday: "thanks to the proposals and amendments of
the Democratic Party also signed by M5S (5-Star Movement) and
AVS (Green-Left Alliance), Azione, in article 25, which defines
the reserve of national transmission capacity, the theme of
safeguarding national security and industrial returns for the
country system is introduced".
The opposition has condemned recent reports Meloni may be
considering using Starlink for strategic Italian communications
saying this threatens national security.
Musk has helped Ukraine fend off Russian attacks by lending them
Starlink's capabilities.
