A Gaza parish priest the late pope
phoned daily even during the worst days of his recent illness
said after his death Monday that "the pope loved us so much".
In the parish of Gaza everyone was gathered in prayer for Pope
Francis.
A portrait of him has been displayed in the church. A
spontaneous prayer has been underway since this morning, which
will include a moment with the entire community at 5 pm.
"We thank him and pray for him who loved our church in Gaza so
much and worked so hard for justice and peace," says the parish
priest, the Argentine Father Gabriel Romanelli, who in these
years of conflict has had a daily telephone conversation with
the Pontiff that did not completely stop even during the diciest
days of his Roman hospitalization.
