Intesa Sanpaolo is "far from the
confusion" in Italy on mergers and acquisitions amid UniCredit's
bid for Banco BPM and Monte dei Paschi di Siena's bid for
Mediobanca, the CEO of Italy's biggest bank, Carlo Messina said
Tuesday saying that it was strong enough to go it alone.
"We have no intention of participating in acquisitions and
mergers", Messina said during a conference call with financial
analysts after posting record 2024 results.
"We want to be far from the confusion that exists on the Italian
market," he added.
"It is also difficult to be able to do other operations on the
antitrust front.
"We will not do any mergers or acquisitions in Italy".
