Over six million people are expected
to celebrate Valentine's Day with a meal at one of the over
133,000 restaurants in Italy, according to estimates published
Wednesday by the Italian federation of public services (FIPE).
Overall, lunches and dinners celebrating romance and friendship,
this year favoured by the fact that Valentine's Day falls on a
Friday, will have an estimated cost of around 330 million euros,
FIPE said.
The federation said a restaurant meal remains one of the
favourite choices to celebrate this special day, along with
traditional presents such as flowers and chocolates, with chefs
offering all-inclusive menus with a whole range of options, from
platters of oysters and caviar to red-themed desserts and rosé
wine.
A trend this year, according to FIPE, is to devote the whole
weekend to mark the occasion with one or two-night says at
romantic destinations including small towns and mountain
resorts.
